🧠 Mental Health Awareness Campaign: “It’s Okay Not to Be Okay”

On Friday, 31st May 2024, the AFAA Foundation, in partnership with AFAA, hosted a powerful Mental Health Awareness Campaign at the Government Science and Technical College, Area 3, Garki, Abuja.

With the theme “Journey to Mental Wellness and Productivity,” the event marked the close of Mental Health Awareness Month, creating a safe space for open conversations around mental health. Featured speakers included Kingsley Amako, Mrs. Lynda Agiriga, Mr. Jakpo Ukueku, and Queen Joy Ebere, who all shared insightful perspectives and personal stories.

From students to advocates, attendees were empowered with tools and encouragement to prioritize mental well-being. The event echoed a vital message: It’s okay not to be okay — and help is always within reach.

Stay connected as we continue to champion mental health awareness across communities.

✂ Celebrating Men’s Mental Health Month Across Africa

In honor of International Men’s Mental Health Month, the AFAA Foundation, in partnership with AFAA, launched a unique and uplifting initiative to promote mental well-being for men across Africa. Recognizing that mental health matters just as much for men—and is often overlooked—the campaign aimed to foster conversations, community, and care.

As part of the celebration, free haircuts were offered to 5 men in each of the following African cities:

📍 Abuja, Nigeria
📍 Lagos, Nigeria (Mainland & Island)
📍 Owerri, Nigeria
📍 Cairo, Egypt
📍 Kigali, Rwanda
📍 Nairobi, Kenya
📍 Kisumu, Kenya
📍 Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
📍 Durban, South Africa
📍 Cape Town, South Africa
📍 Johannesburg, South Africa

This symbolic gesture provided more than a fresh look—it was a moment to pause, connect, and remind men that it’s okay to take care of their mental health.

From city to city, AFAA is breaking down the stigma surrounding men’s mental health—one haircut and one conversation at a time.
